Your treatment is correct. The redness is normal. The less you disturb the wound bed, the faster it will heal. As long as there is no infection, it isn't necessary to change the dressing daily. Every two or three days should be enough. Keep it covered until it is healed.Sharlynn RN WCC

My last posting was too wordy I am sure so I will try again. My mother=in-law sustained a superficial injury to her forearm right under the elbow about the size of a quarter3 days ago. It is healing. The care I have given is to clean it with normal saline and apply neosporin extra strength , apply a nonstick gauze 4x4 then wrap gauze around it to hold it on. should I continue this & for how long. There is a fine line of red on the outer edge of the wound no warmth or swelling though and no pain, so I don't think it is infected but the redness if still lingering from the trauma.
