The Kennedy Terminal Ulcer is an ulcer that has a sudden onset and has a pear, butterfly, or mirror image appearance. The colors are usually red, yellow, and black. Located on the coccygeal area or gluteal fold. It is a precursor to multi-organ failure and death. Death usually takes place within 2 weeks. Tube feedings or IV's prolong death. Some Kennedy ulcers present what is called the 3'oclock syndrome. Upon assessment in AM, no discoloration. When assessed in PM, discoloration is present. I believe the skin mirrors what is going on inside the body. Does this help?
