Sorry to hear about your gastric by-pass troubles and the following ulcers. Glad to hear you are recovering. The only way to prevent pressure ulcers is to relieve the pressure. (duh, i know) to do this they can: roll the patient every hour or so (difficult to do given the weight and other health conditions may be jeapardised by that) there are underlays that can be used, but would be rendered useless by your weight. I am not sure if an air bed (much like a hover craft) could have been used. I dont know the weight limits or other limits because of the other conditions they were contending with. I hope you are healing well, there are great wound care products available. I hope also that the by-pass ( although it caused problems) has helped you lose weight so this will be less of an issue in the future. Zilla

Is there ever a reason that a pressure ulcer cannot be prevented. I developed a stage IV on my buttocks and a stage II on the back of my head after being in a coma for two months and in the hospital for another 5 months. The coma was a result of a gastric bypass surgery gone bad.Their excuse was that because of my size (468lbs.) and the critical nature of my illness (multi organ failure after a leak)they could not prevent them. What say you.
