I am a nurse at a nursing home and in my experience, a flap graft surgery sounds right on track. There still is a chance that the graft may not take, but from what I've seen, about 85% do very well. There are other options, though a lot slower at wound closure than surgery would be. Have you followed up with a wound care center?Wounds1 has an area on this site which will refer you to a local wound care center). There are many topical treatments that are effective. There is also a wound vac system(made by KCI, there is info on this site about it) that promotes healing using negative pressure(it essentially is a vaccuum). I have seen it work wonders on some very large, thought to be unhealable wounds. Hope this helps. Email me and let me know how things go. Jennifer

My husband went to the hospital for a 14 hour operation. The operation went well but when he was sent to the ICU they discovered a Pressure wound.. He remained in the hospital for three more weeks due to lung & then PT. He was home for a week and developed a high fever due to the pressure wound and was sent back to the hospital for iv anti biotics The Doctors are now talking about plastic surgery ..The ulcer is 11 x 7 x 2 . We are all confused as to what to do. Thanks Dee
