Incompetent perforators. Superficial leg veins normally empty into deep leg veins through small connecting vessels. These are called perforators. When flow in the perforator is directed correctly into the deep vein, it is a normal, or competent, perforator. If blood is forced backwards from the deep veins into the superficial leg veins (due to a failed valve), it is called an incompetent perforator.

I have been diagnosed with inompetent perforators over my right knee...I am currently undergoing a varicose vein deltion....what is IP ?
