I have a 78 year old friend recently diagnosed with Venous Insufficiency, after being misdiagnosed for a few months with cellulitus. She is now better after having casts put on her legs for about 6 weeks. She now has a lady come in twice a day to put heavy duty support hose on her legs in the a.m. and remove them in the evening. They are just too hard for her to put on by herself. Her right leg is now thin and very healthy looking but her left leg breaks out every once in a while with a spot of liquid or bleeding (once) but heals when she puts a patch and antibiotic on it for a few days. It is also much larger than the right leg. She had hip resection in the left leg two years ago and developed a blood clot right away and was in a nursing home for a short period of time. She sits a lot but gets up every hour or so to go to the kitchen or bathroom so she is not sitting constantly. She also elevates her leg at times but not above her heart as I saw someone mention as a good idea. She just puts it on a pillow on a stool in front of her or on her bed if she is in bed. She also is only 4'11" with short legs. The stockings that she wears are knee highs but the tops have to be folded over to stay below her knee. I plan to take her to a place for another pair and hope that they can measure and fit her with a pair that is shorter. Is that possible? She appears to be holding her own now and I hope she just doesn't get worse. Any helpful suggestions to help her would be greatly appreciated.

I am interested in hearing from others with CVI and hear of their treatment, etc. I am a 54 year old male on disability retirement.
