The best treatment for second degree burns is not getting burnt in the first place! (Not that I've been particularly good at following that particular edict myself.) But if you do get burned, here's the second best treatment:
1. Rinse the burned area for about 15 minutes under cool (not cold) water, or until it stops hurting. Make sure to take off any jewelry that could get stuck on if the skin swells.
2. Gently (geeeently) clean the burn with soap and water. Make sure to wash your hands before touching any burned areas. You don't want to cause any infectons while trying to clean it.
3. Put on antibiotic ointment.
4. Carefully cover any broken skin with a bandage. When removing sticky bandages later, put warm water on it first so that you don't rip the burned skin. Your first aid kit might actually have burn specific bandages, but if not normal bandages are fine.
That should cover it. I'm a little embarassed b y how many times I've managed to burn myself, but hopefully you can learn from my experience.
